Early Intervention

I chose this topic because I have worked with special education for three years.  I realized how amazing these children are and should get the help that they deserve.  Sometimes children need a little extra assistance whether it be occupational therapy, speech therapy or many other types of therapy that is offered to children.  Children are extremely vulnerable at young ages and need to be set on the right track.  There are many organizations that help these children and families.  Early education sets the groundwork for children and their future.  If there is something that they need assistance with, it is better to do it at a young age.  It can be rather difficult to change things that a child has already learned.  I am curious if any of my classmates have worked with anyone with special needs and if so, do they feel that these services help them?

  1. Hey Kimberly. That is a great topic. Working in Head Start, I would have several kids in my class that had various special needs. Is there a specific disability you are going to focus on? For most children I could tell that therapy did help, but there was not always the support and training for us teachers on ways to help more in the classroom. I hope this helps as you continue working on the simulation.

  2. Kimberly,
This is an excellent choice for a topic. I have worked with early intervention during my time with the Head Start program I am employed with. It is a wonderful program that has the same goals and standards as Head Start. From my personal experience I feel they are a quality program. What is it you are researching about them? Do you have a specific focus or a generalized focus?

  3. Kimberly,
Within the realm of early intervention is there a specific topic that you're going to be focusing on? I too have had experiences working with E.I. professionals in a variety of settings. Although the name early intervention may seem intimidating, you are absolutely right- so many children benefit from any level of additional support.
